Peter Selcho ’21 Commits to Play Volleyball at UC San Diego

Senior Peter Selcho has committed to play volleyball at the University of California, San Diego. The Friars’ middle blocker shared, “I chose UCSD because the school is both academically and athletically prestigious. I also wanted to stay near the beach in sunny Southern California.” He continued, “What attracted me most to the volleyball program was the culture of the program and how the athletes on the team always push each other to become better.”

A two-year varsity letterman for Servite Volleyball, Selcho has emerged as a leader on the team dominating at the net while tallying team-high numbers in kills (158) and blocks (55). He also boasts a .493 hitting percentage which ranks him among the best in school history.

Head Coach Matt Marrujo ’07 shared, “Peter Selcho is a remarkable young man that has worked hard to turn his dream into a reality. To see the player who Peter has grown into is a testament to his hard work and commitment to our process.”

Selcho, who plans to study International Business at UCSD, is also involved with CSF, the Ping Pong Club and Spanish Club at Servite. He has also volunteered with Her Servants’ Kitchen.

Selcho is among three seniors that are moving on to play volleyball collegiately and the first Friar to play for the Tritons since 2014 graduates Cole Kendrick and Dominic Spencer.

In closing Selcho shared, “I would first like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play for such a good program in college. I would like to thank my parents for supporting me while playing club volleyball even when I wasn’t too good at the sport at first. I would like to thank my coaches, especially Coach Marrujo, Coach Andy Read, Coach Paul, Coach Paka, Coach Trevor, and Coach Marty for helping to develop my my skills in volleyball and for helping me to become a better man. Lastly, I would like to thank my present and former teammates, especially Jackson Helleland, Davis Kendrick, Jacob Toth, Jack Morikawa, Kevin Windisch, Cole Rasic, Jack Hennessey, Max Colgan, Brady Boz, Riley Rozenkranz and everyone else who made the sport even more enjoyable.”
