Swim Opens the Season with an Impressive Performance vs. El Modena

Servite Swim opened the 2021 season yesterday at home against El Modena High School. As a team, the Friars dominated the Vanguards with scores of 111-56, 113-13, and 118-5 at the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Open levels respectively. This season-opening victory was also filled with various individual and team standouts.

In the first team event, the 200Y Medley Relay, junior Sam Diamond and sophomores Tanner McCreary, Isaac Sanchez, and Alexander Kowalski finished in first place with a time of 1:45.83. The Friars earned second and third place finishes in the 200Y Free Relay, as well as first and third place finishes in the 400Y Free Relay. The first place 400Y Free Relay team, lead-off by Diamond, followed by Sanchez and freshman Kai Baker, and anchored by Kowalski, defeated the Vanguards by over 20 seconds with a time of 3:34.57!

In the individual events, Diamond also finished first in the 200Y Free, while Kowalski and Sanchez finished in first and second, respectively, with senior Kyle Ito finishing third in the 200Y IM. Friars Tanner McCreary, Kai Baker, and sophomore Ryan Gonzales were the top three finishers in the 50Y Free. Baker also had a first place finish in the 100Y Free. Kowalski had an emphatic first place finish in the 500Y Free with a time of 4:56.59. Finally, Diamond ended his series of individual events with a first place finish in the 100Y Back.

This was a great start to the season for Servite Swim! Get ready to support your Friars at their next meet on March 31st at home against the Troy High School Warriors.
