Servite Scholar-Athlete of the Week (4/22/19)

Zachary Haarlammert
Senior
Volleyball
GPA: 4.37

Favorite School Subject: My favorite subject in school is sports medicine without a doubt. It helps better my understanding of injuries and preventative measures that I can apply to volleyball.

How do you balance the academic and athletic rigors here at Servite? Servite challenges me equally in the classroom and on the court. I try to finish as much work throughout the day to give my full effort and attention at practice or games. After playing, I return my focus to school and work until every assignment is complete. Spacing out assignments is my key to making sure I am not overwhelmed academically ensuring success on the court as well.

What is your go-to study tip for an upcoming exam? My go-to study tip for any test is making sure to study for at least an hour the night before and try to reason through questions I do not understand instead of guessing.

What else are you involved in at Servite? Other than my academic classes, I am involved in the Sports Medicine 2 program. In Sports Medicine 2, I assist the school athletic trainers in helping injured athletes at school sports events and in the athletic training room.

What’s your biggest motivation that keeps you striving to be the best student-athlete you can be? I am a generally competitive person which helps me do my best athletically. Academically I see how much my Mother sacrifices to give me a quality education, so I make sure to make the most of this opportunity. Challenging myself in both ways makes me stronger as an individual and will prepare me for later in life.
