Servite Scholar-Athlete of the Week (10/29/18)
Peyton Carey
Senior
Water Polo / Swim
GPA: 4.33

Favorite School Subject: My favorite subject is US History because I think it’s fascinating and important we understand why and how America developed into the glorious country it is today.

How do you balance the academic and athletic rigors here at Servite? I balance the academic and athletic rigors at Servite by trying to stay focused on my goals. This includes being as productive as I can with my free time and getting as much homework and studying done at school before water polo practice.

What is your go-to study tip for an upcoming exam? I don’t really have one single go-to study tip. I do several things for an upcoming exam. First, I thoroughly review all my class notes; then, I make a rough outline (sometimes even flash cards); lastly, I watch some videos of professors teaching the same subject in a different style. This helps me fully comprehend the content I think might be on the exam.

What else are you involved in at Servite? I’ve been involved in a number of clubs and activities throughout my time spent at Servite from being a Priory AP for an awesome group of Freshman Manettus brothers last year, to celebrating every Thanksgiving and Christmas morning with my family and fellow brothers doing God’s work through Her Servants Kitchen feeding the homeless at La Palma Park. My final year, other than Varsity Water Polo and Swim, I am an active member of NSHSS, NHS, CSF, JSA, HSK, Speech and Debate, Peer Court, The American Red Cross Club, Spanish Club, Chinese Club, and various outreach programs through my church.

What’s your biggest motivation that keeps you striving to be the best student-athlete you can be? I stay motivated by always writing down at least 3 goals for myself and doing everything necessary to achieve them. This method provides me not only with a sense of accomplishment, but also allows me to look back on those lists and see how far I’ve come. Although, my biggest motivation comes from my family and their constant support of my goals and desires throughout my entire student-athlete career.

Current Courses: AP Literature, Calculus, AP Spanish, AP Government/AP Economics, AP Environmental Science, Critical Reflections
