Nine Student-Athletes Participate in National Signing Day

Servite Athletics recognized nine student-athletes during a Signing Day Ceremony Wednesday as they committed to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level. With the addition of these talented young men, the Class of 2018 now has 26 athletes moving on to compete in college- Baseball (4), Cross Country (2), Football (8), Golf (3), Lacrosse (2), Soccer (3), Track & Field (1), Volleyball (2), Water Polo (1).

Chad Deegan, US Naval Academy (Golf)– As a Freshman, Deegan was a member of the Friars’ Trinity League and CIF Championship team before moving to Atlanta with his family for two years. Deegan returned to Servite for his senior season and has helped the Golf team win three tournament titles and go 15-0 to date.

Jacob Espinosa, Pacific Lutheran (Football)- A two-sport athlete for the Friars, Espinosa is also on the Varsity Wrestling team for Servite and was a member of the Servite Football Curia.

Sam Sequeira, University of Mary (XC/Track)- Sequeira was a member of the 2017 Trinity League and CIF Championship Track & Field team for the Friars and has helped lead Servite to another league championship in 2018.

Vince Sarino, Cal Poly Pomona (XC/Track)– A 3-year Varsity letterman in Cross Country and Track & Field, Sarino has won three league titles during his time at Servite as well as a CIF Championship. Individually, he qualified for CIF in the 800 last season and will compete in Trinity League finals in the same event at the end of the month.

Christian Ojeda, Chapman (Track & Field)- A 2-year Varsity letterman in Track & Field, Ojeda was a member of the last two Trinity League Championship teams for Servite as well as the 2017 CIF Championship team. Ojeda qualified for CIF in the 110 Hurdles his junior season while also running the 300m hurdles, 4×100 and 4×400 relays this season.

Daniel De La Rosa, Aquinas College (Volleyball)– De La Rosa will join his teammate Robert Valerio at Aquinas College this fall where they will be members of the newly created Saints Volleyball team.

Lucas Alberty, Chapman (Football)– Alberty missed the majority of his senior season with injury but battled to get back on the field for playoffs. He will join fellow Friar, Cesar Delgado ’14 at Chapman.

Robert Valerio, Aquinas College (Volleyball)– A 2-year Varsity letterman for the Friars, Valerio set a school record his junior year for most blocks in a season with 98 while also tying the record for most blocks in a match tallying nine twice.

Jon Lien, LMU (Water Polo)– A 3-year Varsity letterman for the Friars, Lien helped lead the Friars to the CIF Semifinals this season earning 1st Team All-CIF recognition and 2nd Team All-Trinity League honors tallying 287 saves. He was also selected to play in the OC Senior All-Star game.
