Wrestling Defeats Orange Lutheran and Mater Dei to Set Up Clash of the Titans for the Trinity League Title

Servite Wrestling traveled to St. John Bosco Tuesday night to open Trinity League competition against Orange Lutheran and Mater Dei. The Fight’n Friars defeated the Lancers 58-21 then took care of the Monarchs 54-21. The Braves also went 2-0 in competition to set up a clash of the titans between Servite and Bosco to battle for the Trinity League Championship next Tuesday, January 14 at 7pm at Servite.

In the first dual, the Fight’n Friars started strong as Julian Espinoza won by fall at 108 then Josh DeVega was forfeited to. The Lancers bounced back to win by tech fall at 122 then fall at 128 to pull within one of Servite down 12-11. Noah Segura answered with a pin at 134 then the Friars were forced to forfeit at 140 but maintained a 18-17 lead. Next Servite won three straight as Luke Harless won by fall at 147 then Houston Thomas won by major decision at 154 before Angelo Gonzalez tallied another pin. Orange Lutheran got back in the win column at 172 with a major decision but Servite ended the match with falls by Ben Galindo (184), Drew Stricker (197) and Bryce Leos (HWT) then a forfeit to Ben Florentine (222) as the Fight’n Friars cruised to victory, 58-21.

Servite kept the momentum going against Mater Dei. With a smaller squad, the Monarchs forfeited at 115, 122, 140 (as did Servite), 172, 184, 197, and HWT to give the Friars the upper hand. Of the matches wrestled, the Fight’n Friars won by fall at 134, 162 and 222 with Segura and Gonzalez tallying their second pins of the day while Mater Dei won at 128, 147, 154 and 108.

In other Trinity League news, Santa Margarita forfeited their league duals while JSerra just started their wrestling program this season.
