William Sung has committed to play golf at Columbia University. The Friars’ junior said, “I chose Columbia because I enjoyed getting to know the team and wanted to
experience college life in the city.”

A varsity letterman since his freshman year, Sung has helped lead Servite Golf to back-to-back CIF-SS and Trinity League Championships the last two seasons. Individually, he was the sole Friar golfer to earn 1st Team All-Trinity League honors in 2019 advancing to the CIF Regional Tournament then Individual Championships. To date, he has also been match medalist five times.

Coach Dane Jako shared, “I first met William four years ago at open house and knew right away that he was a fine young man but had no idea what incredible young man he would turn out to be. He embodies what Servite is all about, a great teammate and student who works hard to achieve his goals. I am disappointed that this season had to be cut short but look forward to getting to see William compete his senior year before heading off to play for Columbia.”

Sung, who plans to study economics at Columbia, is the second Friar from his class to commit to attending an Ivy League joining Benjamin Hong who is headed to Dartmouth. He is also the sixth golfer in the Servite program to earn the opportunity to play collegiately.

In closing Sung added, “Thank you Coach Jako for all your support and guidance during the past three years. Also, thank you to my parents for supporting me financially and emotionally in every part of my life.”

Servite would like to congratulate Sung and wish him the best during his senior year and as he moves onto Columbia.
