Hello everybody,
It is late Tuesday night right now in Australia.
It’s been an action packed Easter Monday and Tuesday for us down under.
On Monday, Nico, Brian. and I (along with Nico’s dad, and our hosts) went to Rottnest Island for a day trip. Rottnest is a small island 12 miles off the coast of Western Australia. We took the ferry from Hillary’s Boat Harbour and arrived around 11:00 and returned around 5:00.. Once there we split up into two groups. The first, (Brian, the moms, and his host Jake) took a jump-on jump-off bus tour of the island. The second (Nico, his dad, myself (Donald), and my host Luke) rented bikes and rode those around the island. We all met up at Geordie Bay, where we had lunch and relaxed on the beach. Rottnest Island is also home to a rare marsupial, the quokka, which is only found in 3 places around the world. We saw a lot of this rare animal and were super close to them the whole day.
The next day, we all (Nico, Brian, Alex, myself, our hosts, and the moms) met up at Caversham Wildlife Park. We spent half a day there and witnessed and did many cool things. We started off at the park watching a sheep herding and shearing demonstration (wool is one of Australia’s biggest exports). Next at the park, we got to pet a koala and take pictures with it. After our koala encounter, we got to get an up close and personal look of many of Australia’s native wildlife and took a group photo with a wombat. However, the best part was the next, as we got the opportunity to feed and pet the kangaroos. In much the same way that you would go to a petting zoo and feed the animals, we got to feed the kangaroos. It was our favorite moment since we’ve been here in Australia. We also got to see all the other wildlife that made their home at the park.
Tomorrow is our first day of school and we are all really excited.
