Senior Ryan Kay has committed to play soccer at the University of La Verne. The Friars’ defender shared, “La Verne was the best option for me because it has a great soccer program and is a great school. During my visit, I really felt like the coaches would push me to be a better player while still allowing me to be a good student, and that really excites me.”
A three-year varsity letterman for Servite Soccer, Kay helped lead the team to their 7th consecutive Trinity League title this season in addition to the CIF Division 1 CIF Championship while earning all-league recognition!
Servite Head Coach Jon Spencer shared, “We are excited to see Ryan continue his soccer career at La Verne. Ryan has been one of the hardest working players in our program over the past four years and it has paid off. He is a top outside back who has a desire to get forward into the attack and dominate on the defensive end. Ryan has also been one of the strongest leaders on our team. He is consistent in his approach and sets an example for others.”
Kay, who plans to study economics at La Verne, is also involved with the Campus Ministry and Admissions committees at Servite as well as SIGN Club. In addition, he volunteers in youth ministry at his church and as a camp counselor at RAD Camp.
Kay is the fourth soccer player from the class of 2020 to announce his college commitment joining Ernesto Garcia who is also headed to La Verne as well as Uriel Sanchez (Cal State Dominguez Hills) and David Mitzner (Portland).
In closing Kay shared a message to his parents and coaches saying, “Thank you to everyone who helped me get to this point, I wouldn’t be here without you, you motivated me to keep pushing to be my best self. Thank you for all of the effort and love you put into me. I love and appreciate everything you’ve done.”
Servite would like to congratulate Ryan on this exciting accomplishment and wish him the best in his next steps!
