Sophomore Roman Martin has committed to play baseball at the University of California, Los Angeles. He shared, “UCLA is a highly-rated public university which has always been my dream school where I know I will receive a top-notch education while having the opportunity to play baseball under some of the best collegiate coaches.

He continued, “I believe that playing for a PAC-12 school will help develop and test my skills playing against the best competition out there. It doesn’t hurt that UCLA is also in my hometown where I know family and friends will be able to attend the games.”

A three-year varsity letterman for Servite by the time he graduates, Martin plays middle infield and pitches for the Friars.
Head Coach Shawn Gilbert said, “We are excited for Roman and his commitment to UCLA. Roman is a talented young sophomore with a big future ahead of him if he continues to develop into the player we think he can be. A straight A student with a great work ethic, we feel as though he can be one of the elite players in his age group over the next three years.”
Gilbert on to say, “He is a quality young man that we are proud of and represents Servite well! We look forward to his development as a player not only at Servite but in the years to come.”
Martin is the third current Friar to commit to play for Coach Savage and the Bruins joining juniors Chris Grothues and Jarrod Hocking. In addition, he is the seventh Servite player to announce his college decision and the first from the Class of 2023!
In closing, Martin added, “I would like to thank the Servite coaches for putting me in the perfect position and for helping me connect with UCLA.  This process has been a collaboration with so many great coaches, teammates and trainers not to mention my parents who are my greatest supporters.”
Baseball season is currently scheduled to begin in mid-March.
