Senior Matthew Albano has committed to play volleyball at Hiram College. The Friars’ setter shared, “Hiram College was the best fit for me for both volleyball and academics. Other schools were one or the other and Hiram has given me the chance to do both. I like the culture within the volleyball program there and am thankful for the opportunity to continue my volleyball career at the next level.”

A four-year member of the volleyball program, Albano was also recognized a Scholar-Athlete of the Week earlier this year.

Head Coach Matt Marrujo ’07 shared, “Matthew Albano has grown into a really good setter for our program. He continues to be coachable and works every day to hone his craft. I am excited that Matthew has the chance to go play for one of Servite’s all-time great players, Kevin Kustura ’11, at Hiram College. I know Matthew is going to make a big impact on an upcoming program.”

Albano, who plans to major in Civil Engineering at Hiram, is also involved in CSF and the Priory program at Servite serving as a senior AP.

Albano is the third Friar from the Class of 2021 to announce his college commitment joining Colin Ryan (UC Merced) and Peter Selcho (UC San Diego).

In closing Albano shared, “Thank you Mom, Dad, and Joseph for always supporting me and my goals. You have all played huge roles in my volleyball life and I couldn’t have done it without you. I love you all!

He continued, “Thank you Coach Marrujo, Paul, Paka, and Marty for pushing me to be better and giving me chances to challenge myself. To all of my past coaches, thank you for building the foundation to my game and getting me hooked. You have all formed me into the player and person I am today.”
