Mason Graham ’22 Wins Heavyweight Match to Lead Wrestling to Victory over Calvary Chapel

Servite Wrestling won a thriller over Calvary Chapel 36-34 Wednesday night with the dual coming down the to heavyweight match. Down 34-33, sophomore Mason Graham stepped on the mat to decide the dual. Tied in the third period Graham broke through getting the takedown and nearfall to win his match by decision and clinch the victory for the Fight’n Friars!

Calvary Chapel jumped out to a commanding lead winning the first four matchups to open up a 21-0 lead. The Churchboyz then forfeited to Marcus Medina at 134 to put Servite on the board, 21-6. Sam Matles doubled the Fight’n Friars score as he won by fall at 140 but Calvary maintained a 21-12 advantage.

Servite dropped their matches at 147 and 154 but Neil Carter but the Friars back in the win column with a victory by decision at 162, 31-15 Churchboyz.

Calvary won their final match of the night in a closely contested match at 172 before the Friars closed the gap and ultimately walked away with the win. Victor Villasenor won by fall at 184 before Tristen Wilson (195) and Andrew Archeluta (222) earned forfeits to pull Servite within one down 34-33 setting up a heavyweight battle.

The Fight’n Friars will be back in action this weekend when they compete at 5 Counties hosted by Fountain Valley.
