He came to Servite in 1970 to help address the challenge of forming young men. Throughout his 42-year tenure, he challenged students to answer the question, ‘Who am I?’ and to become the men God called them to be. Larry Toner retired in 2016 after serving as Head Football Coach (1989 – 2005), freshmen Football and Basketball Coach (1970 – 1985), Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach (1975 – 1985), founding director of the Formation Program, teacher (French, Latin, Spanish and Theology), advisor and choir director. He even led student assemblies with his memorable chant and arm-gyrating cheer, ‘We are Servite!’ He worked to impart on ‘the men’ how to accomplish the hard thing, the challenge. “I wanted our men to respect the challenge, but not fear it,’ he said. “Look for the challenge and be a cut above yesterday.” He is the longest tenured Servite employee with 42 years of service.
