Before coming to Servite, Joe Swoboda worked 11 years in Catholic Youth Ministry. Joe sees his journey to Servite as a great example of God’s graciousness. When his Youth Ministry work came to an end, he chose to pursue working in a Catholic high school to help teens develop their personal theology and faith. Joe explains the event as “graced synchronicity” when just at the time he needed a high school teaching job, mid-year and he being down in San Diego, Fr. Justin Pisciotta OSM, a Servite Theology teacher, decided to move on to parish ministry himself. Then Ray Dunne hired Joe in January 1993. In his classes, he hopes his students learn that pursuing a relationship with God and an understanding of God’s great acts of love in history are powerful personal and social goods. He also hopes his students better appreciate how this pursuit requires imagination and effort.
Joe holds a Bachelor degree in Humanities for Chapman University, an MM (Ministry) from Seattle University, and has completed several courses in Biblical Studies and Church History from the Catholic Biblical Institute of Orange and Fuller Seminary.
