Houston Thomas ’22 has committed to play football at the United States Air Force Academy. The Friars’ running back shared, “I wanted to attend one of the military academies for all their great benefits, in addition to sports, and Air Force gave me that opportunity. The winning culture and focus on discipline really stood out to me.”
A three-year varsity letterman in football and multi-sport athlete, Thomas earned All-Trinity League offensive honors his senior (1st Team) and junior (2nd Team) years as well as being selected All-CIF, All-Orange County and an OC All-Star in 2021. In addition, Thomas was a member of the Curia and called the Hut Drill. Throughout his career, he tallied 1306 yards rushing on 237 carries with 23 touchdowns. Defensively, the added 67 total tackles in 29 games played for the Friars.
As a team, football advanced to the CIF-SS D1 Finals finishing as runner-ups while ending the season ranked No. 3 in the nation in the composite rankings.
Head Coach Troy Thomas said, “You must have a Houston Thomas in your program. He’s an all-the-time guy, loves his teammates, does his job, plays as hard as he can, and is physical when he gets there. We are excited to see him represent the Friar nation at the Air Force Academy.”
Thomas, who plans to study computer science, also wrestled and ran track for the Friars while volunteering with Servite’s Youth Lifting and Football camps.
In closing Thomas shared, “Thank you to everyone who has made this lifelong dream of playing D1 football a reality. I can’t wait for this next chapter to unfold.”
