Name: Hayley Johnson
School & Grade: Rosary Academy, Grade 10
Role: Cinderella
In the world of “Into the Woods,” Cinderella is a lot more spunky and true-to-life than a lot of other Cinderella portrayals. That’s what I love most about her. Nobody is perfect, not even Cinderella.
How are you preparing for your specific role?
Sondheim’s music is very challenging, so most of my preparations for this show have had to do with the music. It can be difficult, especially in this show to maintain my character choices, while still singing accurately.
What is your favorite song from the show?
There are so many amazing songs in this show that asking me to pick my favorite is a tall order. I guess I would have to choose either “No More” or “Finale: Children Will Listen.” Both songs can mean so many different things to everyone who listens to them. Both are sweet and sentimental and absolutely packed with emotion.
Can you share a favorite Tri-School memory?
I think just the acceptance that was shown to me when I first started performing with Tri-School in my freshman year was such a blessing, and the experiences I had with the upperclassmen will always be very dear to my heart.
Favorite subject in school/Favorite teacher?
My favorite subject in school would have to be English. I love to read!
Are you involved in anything outside of Tri-School?
Outside of Tri-School, I am an ambassador at Rosary Academy, and I also take voice and dance lessons.
If you aren’t performing, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
In my spare time, I love to listen to music and read.
If someone could play YOU in the movie of your life, who would it be?
Definitely either Lily Collins or Lucy Hale, the reason simply being that they are much more fabulous versions of myself.
What are you excited for audiences to see in “Into the Woods”?
I think the most beautiful and unique thing about Tri-School’s production of “Into the Woods” this spring is the raw emotion behind every little gesture and every little note. Everyone in this cast is ridiculously hard working and lovely, and everybody is so excited to see everybody around them succeed. Especially in the finale of the second act, I just can’t wait for audiences to feel how connected we are as a cast, and how much love and effort has been put into this production.
Anyone you would like to thank?
First off, I’d like to thank the Academy. I’m sorry. How many times is that joke going to be made? In all seriousness, I want to thank our fantastic director, Mr. Marrone, our lovely musical director, Mrs. Kasang, and our wonderful cast. Thank you all for being incredible. I also want to thank my whole family, my parents, and grandparents especially, for being so ridiculously supportive.
