The living dead students returned to school to attend a mock funeral during a student assembly. During the assembly, everyone in the theater watched a film of the previous day’s events. After the film, several of the living dead students read excerpts from the letters they wrote their families the night before. They shared with their friends and classmates what it felt like to die without having the chance to say goodbye. The assembly concluded with several calls to action challenging everyone in the theater to make responsible choices when alcohol is involved. Parents and teens alike were overwhelmed with emotion and gained a new sense of love and commitment to make the right choices. Special guest speakers included members of the family of Christopher Roth ’09, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2016.

As a community, this event was conducted by the California Highway Patrol, with support from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Anaheim Police Department, Anaheim Fire Department, OC Global Medical Center, C.A.R.E. Ambulance, Hilgenfeld Mortuary, Knott’s Berry Farm, Servite High School, Rosary Academy and many other community partners and affiliates.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a grant from St. Joseph’s Health/St. Jude Medical Center.

The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the people of California and we at Servite High School appreciate their leadership and all they do for our community.
