The game of chess attracted many student participants through the 60s and peaked following the Bobby Fischer v. Boris Spassky World Championship math of 1972

Throughout the 1960s, clubs were formed and added to student activities. Some of the popular clubs included: Radio Club, Chess Club, Biology Club, Varsity Club, Library Club, Pep Club, Derby Club, Forensic Society and Science Seminars. There was even a Gyro Copter Club.
