Servite Baseball (2-0) swept their opening day doubleheader over MLK yesterday scoring a combined 22 runs including 5 home runs! Reese Fawley led the Friars offensively with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs on the day while Emanuel Dean and Jarred Greene also belted home runs.
In game one, Christian Ciuffetelli earned the win for the Friars tossing six innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out three. Jake Kenny closed out the game on the bump throwing a scoreless 7th.
The first run of the season for Servite came as Garret Guillemette worked a bases load walk in the 3rd to break the 0-0 tie. The Friars then broke the game open posting three runs in both the 4th and 5th innings respectively before adding one more in the sixth. Fawley and Dawson Gilbert each had two-hit games while the team tallied eight walks.
In game two, the Wolves’ bats caught fire early posting six runs in the first three innings to take a 6-1 advantage over the Friars. Servite got one back in the 4th off an RBI single from Matthew Strother, his first of two in the game, before staging their comeback in the 5th plating six runs to take the lead 8-6. The Friars offense erupted again in the 7th as they tacked on six more runs. MLK answered scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning but Servite worked out of the jam to clinch the victory.
Alec Rath earned the win for the Friars coming into the game in relief of Grant Newton, throwing three shutout innings giving up no runs on no hits while striking out two.
Servite returns to action Tuesday when they travel to CBU to take on Santiago.
