Servite Wrestling had a great weekend at CIF bringing home their second CIF-SS Runner-Up title of the season! Individually, the Friars finished with eight placers including two champions, Andrew Silva (106) and Troy Madrigal (145). All eight medal winners also clinched their ticket to Masters and are one step closer to state!

Wrestling at 106 pounds, junior Andrew Silva started the final round off strong for Servite upsetting the No. 1 seed, Joey McLaughlin of Mater Dei, by decision 15-8 to win his first CIF title. After an opening round bye, Silva advanced to the finals with a fall and two major decision victories.

Senior Troy Madrigal cut to 145 pounds for his year’s CIF Tournament after winning the title last year at 152 pounds. The move was a smart one for Madrigal as he defeated Juan Lopez of Bishop Amat, 8-2 to win his second CIF Championship. Madrigal entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed after winning his 3rd consecutive Trinity League title last week.

Daniel Magaña (126) and Mario Cazarin (132) also advanced to the finals for Servite finishing as CIF Runner-Ups. Magaña recorded two tech falls, a major decision and a decision to earn a finals berth while Cazarin tallied two pins and two decisions on route to the finals including a 5-3 victory over No. 2 seed, Cael Valencia of St. John Bosco.

Marcos Magaña (138) and Drew Guerrero (170) each took 4th while Tristen Wilson (195) finished off the tournament with a pin to take 5th, Daniel Jurado (182) came in 6th.

Masters will be held next weekend at Temecula Valley High School.
