What a week for Servite Wrestling! After defeating St. John Bosco to win Trinity League Tuesday, the Fight’n Friars are champions once again having won this weekend’s California Invitational Tournament held in Morro Bay! They finished with 10 placers, two champions including the lower weight MVP and 284 team points to beat out Calvary Chapel (156.5) to bring home the title.
Freshman Marcus Medina (122) and senior Teddy Okada (140) each won their second tournament title of the season with Okada being named Lower Weight MVP. After an opening round bye, Okada earned two falls and two tech falls on his way to the finals where he defeated the No. 6 ranked wrestler in the state, Luciano Arroyo of Calvary Chapel by fall at 2:36. Meanwhile, Medina won all six of his matches by fall including the final over Lorenzo Arreola of Dinuba in 4:49.
Daniel Magaña (147) and Tristen Wilson (197) finished as runner-ups while Andrew Silva (115), Josh Medina (134) and Neil Carter (173) took 3rd. Rounding out the placers for the Friars were Valor Buck (154) in 4th, Chris Flores (182) in 5th and Marcos Magaña (134) in 7th.
CIT concluded regular season action for the Fight’n Friars and marked their third tournament championship of the year. Wrestling will now set their sights on CIF Team Duals this coming Saturday, January 26th then the individual tournaments begin with Trinity League Finals the following Friday, February 1st.
