After opening the season with back-to-back victories over Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran, the Fight’n Friars took a break from Trinity League action to take on Esperanza and Fountain Valley.

Wrestling first traveled to take on the Aztecs battling to a one-point win, taking the match 36-35! The Friars then hosted the Barons coming away with a 45-21 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Against Esperanza, the Aztecs jumped out to an early lead going up 23-6 midway through the match but the Friars didn’t give up as they began chipping away with victories by Marcus Medina (138), Tyler Okada (152) and Collin Middleton (182) before the last three matches were forfeited to Jesus Galindo (195), Ben Floretine (220) and Mason Graham (HWT) to clinch the victory for Servite.

The Friars kept the momentum going against Fountain Valley earning victories by fall in the first three matches thanks to pins by Anthony Lucio (106), Ethan Grimminger (113) and Nicholas Sanchez (120). A forfeit to Daniel Munoz at 126 gave the Friars a quick 24-0 advantage and they never looked back.

Medina (138) and Okada (152) each added victories by decision while Middleton (182) once again won by forfeit. Ben Floretine gutted out a 5-3 decision then Graham (HWT) ended the match with a statement recording a first period fall, his third already this season.

Action continues this week with home duals against Villa Park (Thursday) and Calvary Chapel (Saturday).
