The 2018-2019 season marked the 13th year for the Servite Wrestling program and it was anything but unlucky. The Fight’n Friars wrestled their way to the best season in school history winning Masters, both CIF titles and Trinity League!
For these accomplishments and more, Servite Wrestling was recognized Monday night as the Orange County Wrestling Coaches Association (OCWCA) Team of the Year! In addition, senior Teddy Okada and junior Tristen Wilson were honored as Trinity League Wrestlers of the Year and Coach Alan Clinton was awarded Orange County Coach of the Year and Trinity League Coach of the Year. Twelve Fight’n Friars wrestlers were also selected OCWCA All-County including (in weight class order) Andrew Silva, Marcus Medina, Marcos Magaña, Josh Medina, Teddy Okada, Daniel Magaña, Valor Buck, Roy Okada, Neil Carter, Chris Flores, Tristen Wilson and Ayden Matheney.
This year’s championship season marked new firsts for the program in addition to breaking records. It was the first time the team won “the trifecta” (league and both CIF titles) in the same season and also the first time in school history that the Fight’n Friars brought home the Masters Championship. In addition, they won the most individual CIF titles with five, qualified the most wrestlers to state in program history with eight and finished with the most placers, four.
Most recently, our Friar seniors set a new record for most athletes from one graduating class to move on to wrestle at the collegiate level with four (Daniel and Marcos Magaña- Colorado Mesa, Teddy Okada- San Francisco State, Andrew Silva- Vanguard).
Congratulations to the Fight’n Friars on a thrilling season, we can’t wait to see what is in store for next year!
