At the end of each calendar year, Servite Athletics presents four special awards to student-athletes who excel in the classroom (Scholar-Athlete of the Year), on the field of play (Athlete of the Year), in the community (Frank Ryan Service Award) and personally (Sherer Courage Award). Although these awards could not be given out in the same fashion as past years at the Hall of Fame Dinner and All Sports Banquet, our recipients are no less deserving of recognition. Next up, the Athlete of the Year.
The Athlete of the Year is someone who excels in athletics in addition to providing service to the community while maintaining the high academic expectations set at Servite. This year’s award winner is a highly accomplished athlete. He has excelled in two sports during high school finishing as a three-year varsity letterman in both football and wrestling.
In wrestling, he was a 3x Trinity League and CIF placer, 2x Trinity League Champion, 2x CIF Champion, 2x Masters Runner-Up, 2x State placer and 2x National Qualifier. In addition he was a 7x Tournament Champion, 2x Tournament MVP, 2x All-Star, 2x All-Orange County selection and 2x OCWCA Trinity League Wrestler of the Year.
He also helped lead the Fight’n Friars team to a Trinity League title, two CIF-SS Championships and the school’s first ever Masters Championship as well as claiming four CIF runner-up team titles.
As for football, he was a two-year starter on the defensive line while earning All-Trinity League recognition and being selected to the Curia his senior season.
In addition, to his athletic accomplishments, he volunteered with Team Credo and Meals on Wheels while serving as a Servite Admissions Ambassador.
Servite’s 2020 Athlete of the Year is Tristen Wilson.
