Sophomore Trevor Schmidt has committed to play baseball at the University of Arizona. The Friars’ OF/LHP shared, “I chose the University of Arizona because every time I visited the school I felt like I belonged there. I also liked how it was far enough from home to get the feeling that I’m living on my own but close enough that my parents could easily still come watch me.” He continued,  “I was attracted to the baseball program because of the facilities and the coaching staff. I got along really well with the coaching staff there and I was able to see myself playing there.”

A four-year varsity letterman for the Friars by the time he graduates, Schmidt pitched and played outfield his freshman season earning 2nd Team All-Trinity League recognition.

Coach Shawn Gilbert shared, “Trevor is a talented sophomore who contributed early on as a freshman. He’s a physical player and an advanced hitter for his age, hitting in the middle of our lineup throughout last season while leading the team in triples and home runs.” He went on to say, “Trevor works hard at the game and wants to get better to be the best player he can be. We are proud of his verbal commitment to UA and look forward to the player he can become in the next couple years here at Servite.”

Schmidt, who plans to study business at Arizona, is involved with confirmation at San Antonio de Padua and the National League of Young Men outside of Servite.

Schmidt joins fellow sophomore Chris Grothues (UCLA) as the second Friar from his class to commit while becoming the fourth player on varsity to make his college decision.

In closing, Schmidt shared, “I would like to thank my parents and coaches for all their support along the way and for giving me the resources I need to be successful.”

Servite would like to congratulate Trevor on this accomplishment and wish him the best of luck as he continues his high school career.
