Tommy Lien has committed to play water polo at Loyola Marymount University. The Friars’ senior said, “I have had the opportunity to visit campus multiple times since my brother also goes there and I have enjoyed each visit. I was specifically attracted to the water polo team because the players and coaches were cool and easy to get to know.” He continued, “I always wanted to play for a solid team and that is what I’ve witnessed in the numerous games I’ve attended.”

A varsity letterman since his sophomore year, Lien was a member of the Friars 2018 CIF Championship team. As a starter this season, he finished second on the team in goals (44), assists (23) and steals (30).

Coach Andy Coffman shared, “Tommy was a great asset as a 3-year varsity letterman for us. He always trained hard, treated his teammates with respect, and put the team above himself. He is a true Friar.”

Lien, who plans to study communications at LMU, is also involved with the California Scholastic Federation (CSF) at Servite.

Lien is the second player from the class of 2020 to commit to playing college water polo joining Guillermo Ocasio who is headed to UCLA. He will also accompany his brother Jon ’18 and Jack Dunbar ’19 on the Lions’ team.

In closing Lien shared, “I want to give a big thanks to my mom and dad for helping me through this process and guiding me along the way as well as my older brother for encouraging me to strive for anything I want to accomplish. I also want to thank my coaches, Andy Coffman and Mauricio Velazquez for always for pushing me and encouraging me to face challenges head on. Thanks to them I’ve not only grown as a player, but as a person.”

Servite would like to congratulate Tommy and wish him the best as he takes the next steps in his academic and athletic career.
