Senior Shancco Matautia, known to his teammates as Ise, has signed to play football at the University of New Mexico! After initially committing to Idaho State, a late offer on the eve of Signing Day swayed Matautia to the Lobos.
Matautia is a two-year varsity letterman for the Friars starting on the offensive line his junior season. He is also the second member of the senior class to sign on the early signing day joining Noah Avinger who is headed to San Diego State.
Coach Troy Thomas shared, “Shancco is an outstanding young man who loves his teammates. He is a quiet and humble young man off the field but a fierce warrior on it. I have no doubt that he will make us very proud in his future endeavors at Mexico and beyond.”
Matautia, who also plays Rugby and competes in Track and Field for Servite, plans to study Communications with an emphasis in Advertising in college.
In closing Matautia said, “Thank you to all my family and friends that have been there along the way. Without your support, I wouldn’t be in the position I am in today. To my coaches, thank you for teaching me hard work and dedication. Especially Coach Kelly Talavou who pushes me to be the ultimate version of myself every day. Thank you to all my family and coaches. Love you all! Muamua Le Atua (God is first)”
Servite would like to congratulate Shancco on his commitment and wish him the best of luck this season and as he moves on to compete at the collegiate level!
