Today Disney announced the new family of Mouseketeers for the latest revamp of the popular show The Mickey Mouse Club. Amongst the group of young stars of Club Mickey Mouse is Servite High School’s Sean Oliu, currently a sophomore who regularly performs at school and community events. Oliu is a former finalist on “La Voz Kids,” Telemundo’s Spanish-language counterpart to NBC’s “The Voice.”
“My favorite thing about being part of Club Mickey Mouse is hanging out with my castmates and the crew. It’s been a great time getting to know everyone and really becoming friends. I’m a history buff and being part of an iconic show and being able to say I’m a Mouseketeer is awesome,” Oliu shared in Oh My Disney.
Producers are relaunching the program with the new title Club Mickey Mouse and will be transitioning away from the usual broadcast methods and channels.
Variety reported Friday, “This isn’t about a 22-minute episode released once a week,” said Andrew Sugerman, EVP of publishing and digital media at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “It’s a digital-first variety program that celebrates everything that was done in the original programs, but presenting content in the way it’s consumed by today’s Gen Z audiences.”
Time reported, “All of the content that the cast produces will exist on Instagram and Facebook with plenty of livestreams included, and over seven weeks, they’ll produce a weekly musical performance and music video — plus share behind-the-scenes access to their creation process. They’ll also be mentored by social media influencers Todrick Hall and Alisha Marie along the way” in an article on Friday morning.
The Mickey Mouse Club was a launching pad for quite a few of today’s stars, including Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Oliu has been studying music and voice since the age of seven. “We are extremely proud of Sean for receiving this honor,” said Servite President Pete Bowen. “He is a truly talented young man who uses his gifts to lead, inspire and serve others. We will all be tuning in to watch him in this latest venture.”
