Servite High School will be part of a panel presentation at a conference, After the Yellow Ribbon, hosted by Duke University and the Duke Divinity School from November 11-13. The conference brings together pacifists, ministers, ethicists, military, family, educators and artists to discuss issues of moral injury and warfare, and how we understand and minister to those returning from war.
Information about the conference can be found at http://sites.duke.edu/aftertheyellowribbon/
Servite was asked to help develop and participate in the conference due to our work on formation, leadership, faith and morality. We will be part of a panel, Mapping the Moral Landscape: Discovering Resources for Recovery on Saturday afternoon, November 12.
There are a number of interesting resources on the website including a short video interview of Stanley Hauerwas on Moral Fragmentation, Formation and Repair at http://sites.duke.edu/aftertheyellowribbon/page/2/ . Hauerwas is a highly-regarded Christian theologian, ethicist and pacifist at Duke, the Gilbert T. Rowe Professor of Theological Ethics, Time Magazine’s “America’s Best Theologian” of 2001, and the prestigious Gifford Lecturer at St. Andrews in Scotland in 2001. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Hauerwas
This is the first of what we hope will be several annual conferences at Duke University on this issue. It is quite ambitious in that it brings together people from very different groups to discuss a tough subject and to minister to those who have served our nation.
Please pray with us for a successful conference.
