Then the Guitar II groups went. There were two trios; Andrew Casteneda, Michael Richardson, Roberto Valadez and Max Nulk, Michael Kriege, Robert Casas. The first trio played a Gavotte by Johann Sebastian Bach and the second played a Rondeau by Jon Anton Logy. They were not as far along as the other group, but played really well. Roland was able to meet them at their level and coach them. Things like balance and consistency of tone and dynamics were stressed and the students sounded better when they paid attention to that.
Four soloists followed; Brian Rodriguez, Andres Corrales, Michael Richardson and Roberto Valadez. Brian played the prelude from the second Lute Suite by J.S. Bach, Andres played the Aria and Sarabande from a suite by Logy, Michael played study 5 by Fernando Sor, and Roberto played the XX study by Mateo Carcassi. They all sounded great and made a lot of progress with Roland.
At the end Roland’s maganager, Mr. Russ DeAngelo gave out Sauverz gift bags to our students. Roland is sponsored by Savarez strings and the bags had strings, a shirt and other goodies. Then we all had In-N-Out (Roland’s favorite) brought by our wonderful mothers.
We must thank Russ for all of his hard work in making this wonderful event happen for, now, the fourth year in a row and Roland for being so gracious with his time. We also thank moms Elida Rodriguez, Christina Richardson and Marcy Kriege for joining us and helping out.
Finally; our students deserve a lot of credit and congratulations for their hard work and performance in front of one of the world’s guitar masters.
