It was a great night to be a Friar!

On Tuesday night, November 15, 2011, Servite Baseball held its first-ever batting practice for its baseball alumni at Angel Stadium. There were 42 alumni who took part in enjoying the opportunity to hit live pitching from Servite’s baseball coaches in our hometown Major League ballpark, Angel Stadium. There were even a handful of alumni who hit home run shots over the outfield walls!

Servite’s new Head Coach, Jeff Sears, was very pleased with the turnout. “It was a pleasure to see alumni swinging the bats at a great venue while our players also participated by shagging balls in the field. With this being my first year, I am glad to see the support we had at our first event.” John Martin ’87, Director of Alumni and Annual Giving, added “It’s always great fun to enjoy the camaraderie of Servite brotherhood, especially in a unique experience like this… Several alumni expressed to me that they got to fulfill a dream tonight. That’s pretty special.”

From Jim Noonan ’62 to Doug Ralston ’11, the range of alumni spanned 49 years! There were also representatives from the 1978 CIF Big-Five championship team: alumni Mike Witt, Ed Lauth, Ed Farrell, and Coach Matt McCann.

Special thanks to Rob Almand ’00, Communications Manager, who served as our enthusiastic announcer for every plate appearance made by our alumni batters and also to Alejandro Paiz ’12 who served as our photographer for the event. His photos can be viewed on the link below:

Thanks to all who attended and supported the event to make it a truly memorable night!
