Four-year varsity lettermen Benjamin Hong and William Sung have signed to play golf at the collegiate level. Both Friars are headed to the East Coast with Hong signing with Boston College and Sung making it official with Columbia.

During their initial commitments Coach Dane Jako shared, “I first met both Ben and William four years ago at Open House I knew then they were both fine young men but had no idea what incredible young men they both would turn out to be. They are what Servite is all about, not just great players but also great teammates, students and men. I know both of their families are very proud, as they should be, but they have more than earned these great opportunities.”

He went on to say, “I am very saddened that their junior season ended the way it did but I look forward to their senior season and the opportunity they will have to defend their championship titles.”

Hong and Sung helped lead the Friars to CIF-SS Championships during both their freshmen and sophomore years in addition to contributing to the program’s fifth and sixth consecutive Trinity League championships. In 2019 they also completed an undefeated season.

Hong had initially committed to Dartmouth but when they dropped their program he found a new home at Boston College. During his high school career, Hong has earned 2nd Team All-League honors twice while finishing as match medalist on eight occasions.

As for Sung, he was the sole Friar golfer to earn 1st Team All-Trinity League honors in 2019 while advancing to the CIF Regional Tournament then Individual Championships. In addition, he has earned match medalist recognition five times.

The 2021 golf season is scheduled to begin in late March.
