Sam Diamond has committed to play water polo at Concordia University, Irvine. The Friars’ senior shared, “I chose Concordia because I believe it will prepare me for the next 40 years of my life. It will carry on my values as a practicing Lutheran and will show me what it means to be a true man of God. Another reason I chose Concordia is because it has been a part of my life since a very young age. I have been doing sports camps there since I can remember.”

He went on to stay, “There were two things that really stood out to me the most about the water polo program. First is the fact that I can be a big contributor my freshman year. Second is the team comradery. When I went on my campus visit, I saw the way the team interacted and bonded with each other and couldn’t wait to be a part of it.”

A three-year varsity letterman for Servite water polo and team captain, Diamond played in 29 games his senior season tallying 22 goals, 28 assists and 32 steals while winning 16 sprints. He also helped lead the team to a 22-10 overall record and a trip to the CIF-SS semifinals. In addition to playing polo, Diamond is also a four-year varsity letterman for the swim team, advancing to CIF his junior year.

Head Coach Andy Coffman shared, “Sam was an excellent high school water polo player and his work ethic and determination will carry him on to do the same at the college level. Congratulations to him and the Diamond family!”

Diamond, who plans to study business administration at CUI, is also involved in the Admissions Ambassador program and Powersports Club at Servite serving as the VP of both clubs while also helping out with campus ministry and singing in the choir. Off campus, he is a lifeguard for the city of Irvine and plans to work as a Newport lifeguard this summer.

Diamond is the first water polo player to announce his college decision but will join fellow Class of 2022 graduates and soccer players Kevin Sanchez and Brandon Schalliol who are both headed to play for the Eagles in the fall.

In closing Diamond added, “I would like to thank my parents, especially my mom for all those hours she put in driving me to and from practice every day and all the teams she was team mom for. It is so incredible what she did for the Servite program this year. I would also like to thank my dad for inspiring me to do what I love and always pushing me to be the best I can be. Finally, I would like to thank Coach Coffman for all of his support over the last four years. I would not be the player I am today without him and Coach Gavin and Chase. Lastly, I would like to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for all He has done for me.”
