Senior Nick Jako has committed to play football at Davidson College. The Friars defensive back shared, “Davidson is a top academic school in the country. I have spent countless hours in high school focused on my academics and maintained a 4.65 GPA. I want my tireless efforts to pay dividends in my college experience.” He continued, “The football program has been under a new coaching staff for the past two years and is making an immense comeback in their league. I am excited to be a part of this rebuilding process and bring Davidson to the top.”
A three-year varsity letterman for Servite, he earned 1st Team All-Trinity League recognition following his junior season after tallying 75 tackles, six tackles for loss and one interception. A two-sport athlete, Jako also plays lacrosse for the Friars.
Coach Troy Thomas shared, “I don’t know if Davidson knows exactly what they have in Nick Jako. It is easy to see on film he is a physical defensive back. What they can not see is how he cares for his school, teammates and the tradition of Servite. He is as competitive a player as I have ever coached. I know Nick will be very successful at Davidson and beyond.”
Jako, who plans to study economics with a focus in pre-law at Davidson, is also involved in the Admissions committee at Servite and the Classical Language Society.
Jako is the second student-athlete from the Class of 2021 to commit to playing for the Wildcats joining baseball pitcher Benjamin Miltko. In addition, he is among five football players to announce their college decisions.
In closing Jako shared, “Thank you to my mom, dad and brother who have been my biggest supporters from day one. They always push me to excel in the classroom and on the field, and will have my back no matter what. Also, thank you to all the coaches who have helped me during my high school experience, through their hard work I have found my new home at Davidson College.”
