Senior Michael Welsh has committed to play football at San Diego State. The Friars’ wide receiver shared, “I chose SDSU because of the great location in San Diego combined with the high level athletics and academics. I was specifically attracted to the football program because it is upcoming, was in the top 25 last year and they won their bowl game. I am ready to help make an impact on the program.”
A three-year varsity letterman for Servite football, Welsh earned 1st Team All-Trinity League recognition his senior year after tallying 513 yards off 35 receptions with four touchdowns. He was also selected an OC All-Star after helping lead the team to the CIF-SS D1 Finals, a 10-3 overall record and a top 5 national ranking.
Head Coach Troy Thomas shared, “I have so much respect for Michael Welsh and what he accomplished in our program. He proved he belonged at the highest level of high school football every time he stepped foot on the field representing Servite. His toughness and desire to help our team win is unparalleled. I know that he will do the same at San Diego State.”
Welsh is the 10th senior football player to announce his commitment and will join fellow Friar, Noah Avinger ’21 in playing for the Aztecs in the fall.
