Michael Flynn ’15 has been selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the 174th overall pick in the 6th round of the 2018 MLB Draft! The 6’3″ 210lb right handed pitcher was a three-year Varsity letterman for the Friars before being recruited to play for the University of Arizona.
In three seasons at Arizona, Flynn has pitched in 51 games for the Wildcats tossing 141 1/3 innings while getting 19 starts. He has tallied a 12-5 overall record with a 4.45 career ERA and 135 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .228 batting average.
Flynn has four pitches in his arsenal throwing his fastball between 90-94 MPH, his curveball 79-82, his change-up 83-85 and his slider in the mid 80s.
During his time with the Friars, Flynn pitched and played outfield for Servite under the direction of Coach Jeff Sears (2012-2014) and Coach Shawn Gilbert (2015). In his senior season he hit .329 and led the team in RBIs with 15 while also throwing 37.2 innings for Servite with a 2.6 ERA and 39 strikeouts. Following his junior season he earned an invite to participate in the 2014 Area Code games playing for the Milwaukee Brewers.
