Kevin Sanchez ’22 has committed to play soccer at Concordia University, Irvine. The Friars’ forward shared, “I chose Concordia because it honestly felt like home the first time I stepped foot on campus. The small environment will also give me a chance to grow in closer relationships with both my classmates and professors. In addition, Concordia has a great reputation for sending their students to chiropractor school after receiving their undergraduate degrees which also intrigued me because that is the profession I am interested in pursuing.”
As for soccer, Sanchez went on to say, “What attracted me to the program was the coaching staff and the sense of brotherhood that the team had. Keeping my faith throughout my college years is immensely important to me and the way the team bonds as a brotherhood and continues to keep God in their forefront is what made me choose Concordia.”
A four-year varsity letterman for Servite soccer, Sanchez earned 2nd Team All-Trinity League honors his junior year after helping the Friars win their 8th consecutive league title. He was also a member of the 2020 CIF-SS Division 1 Championship squad. This season, he has been an early impact player for the team tallying five goals and four assists in eight games played. To date, he has totaled 37 points in 40 contests throughout his high school career.
Head Coach Eddie Soto shared, “Kevin will make an immediate impact in the Pac-West Conference. He’s a dynamic scorer who will adjust well to the college game. I’m proud he’s overcome some obstacles, and look forward to following his progress at Concordia. Congratulations to Kevin and his family.”
Sanchez, who plans to study Kinesiology with an emphasis in Health and Human Performance at Concordia, is heavily involved on campus as a member of the National Honor Society, CSF and Key Club while serving as the co-president of the Red Cross Club. He also runs track and field for the Friars. Off campus, he serves as a confirmation leader and interns at Rockenmacher Chiropractic.
Sanchez adds his name to a growing number of soccer seniors who have announced their college decisions and will join fellow Friars Brett Lux ’19 and Justin Nodarse ’21 in playing for the Eagles.
In closing Sanchez shared, “I would like to thank my coaches and teammates who have pushed me to be the best possible player I can be; they showed me how to sacrifice not only for myself but something bigger than just me. Most importantly, I would like to thank my family, who has always been there for me, for going to all my games, taking me to practices, and just having their support in everything I do. They are a significant reason why I have achieved my goals.”
