Jonathan Rodriguez ’23 has committed to play baseball at California State University, Fullerton. The Friars left-handed pitcher and first baseman shared, “First off, I chose Fullerton because I have had six family members go through the school and currently have an older sister there right now.”

He continued, “I am a huge fan of the baseball program and have a lot of respect for the coaches there. I just feel like this school is the right fit for me and I’ve been wanting to be a Fullerton Titan since the 2nd grade.”

An aspiring Business major, Rodriguez will be a three-year varsity letterman for Servite Baseball by the time he graduates. He saw action on the mound and at the plate for the Friars his sophomore season earning 2nd Team All-Trinity League honors.

Coach Shawn Gilbert shared, “JRod is a talented player that we are pleased to see he has decided to commit to Cal State Fullerton. He has already made an impact in the lineup both as a hitter and a pitcher early in his high school career and has a chance to be a legitimate two-way player in college.”

He went on to say, “He is good defensive first baseman and a quality hitter with potential for real power both in high school and at the next level. As a left-handed pitcher, he has a solid, consistently-improving fastball, a good breaking ball, and is developing an effective change-up. I am looking forward to the next couple years with JRod in the middle of our lineup and as one of our key starting pitchers in preparation for his college career at Cal State Fullerton!”

Rodriguez joins Roman Martin (UCLA) as the second player from the Class of 2023 to announce their college decision.
