The history of Servite would not be complete without mention of longtime History Department chair John Ebbe. He began teaching at Servite in 1986 and retired in 2016. In addition to his mastery of content, his enthusiasm inspired students to pursue history in their college studies and as a basis for their careers. He considers his greatest achievement hiring and being a mentor for current History Department chair, Ben Van Dyk ’01. “I always said that if I could find just one of my students who wanted to teach history with the same interest and first I had, then my teaching career would be a success,” said John. The 2001 yearbook was dedicated in his honor.
