Jacob Garcia ’20 has signed to play football at Utah State. The Friars’ long snapper announced his decision on social media stating, “First and foremost, I would like to thank God for blessing me with the gifts and talents that have given me the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream of playing D1 Football. And for all His guidance throughout my life and during this recruitment journey.”
He continued, “Thank you to Servite High School, Coach Troy Thomas and the rest of the staff, and to all of my Servite Brothers who have helped me become a Faith-Filled Leader. Again, I am blessed to have these men and Brothers in my life. #ForeverAFriar”
He went on to thank his trainer Matt Wigley, Rubio Long Snapping and Kohl’s Kicking for giving him the exposure and training to become the best long snapper he could be.
Garcia shared why he was specifically attracted to Utah State saying, “It was the best option for me and my family. The coaching staff and program philosophy are very similar to Servite in that they are a blue collar team.”
A three-year varsity letterman for the Friars, Garcia earned 3rd Team All-County honors his senior season while being selected to play in the Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii this January. In addition, he was named by Rubio Long Snapping 3rd Team HS All-American.
Coach Troy Thomas said, “Jacob is a special young man that will fit into the tough, hard nosed culture at Utah State. He has been a huge part of building our culture at Servite over the last two years. We are excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Garcia, who plans to study business marketing at Utah State, has also played Rugby and Track and Field at Servite and is involved with the National League of Young Men.
In closing Garcia shared, “Above all, I would like to thank my family, especially my parents for the endless love and support they have given for me. The sacrifices they have made to give me the best opportunities has definitely not gone unnoticed. Without them, I would not be in this blessed position.”
Servite would like to congratulate Jacob and wish him the best of luck as he takes the next steps in his academic and athletic career.
