Jack Morikawa ’22 has committed to play volleyball at McKendree University. The Friars’ setter shared, “I really liked the coach and the boys on the team. Coach Sanlin made me feel very welcome and I look forward to playing for the program.”
A three-year starter for the Servite volleyball team, Morikawa was named 2nd Team All-Trinity League following his junior campaign when he set a new school record for most assists in a match with 64 against Los Alamitos in the CIF playoffs. He nearly broke his own record later in the postseason tallying 63 assists against Huntington Beach in the semifinals.
Head Coach Matt Marrujo ’07 shared, “Jack is the epitome of a Servite volleyball player: hard-working, intelligent, and committed. He is going to have a great senior season and career at McKendree.”
Morikawa is the first senior volleyball player to announce his college decision but joins his older brother and fellow Friar, Chris Morikawa ’19 (UC Merced), in playing collegiately.
In closing Morikawa shared, “I would like to thank all of my coaches and especially my parents for always helping me and giving me the motivation I needed to get to where I am. I specifically want to shout out my club coach, Glenn Henry and my high school coach, Matthew Marrujo for making me the person and player I am today.”
Jack will be recognized for his accomplishments during a signing day ceremony held at Servite in February.
