Senior David Mitzner has committed to play soccer at the University of Portland. The Friars’ goalkeeper shared, “I chose the University of Portland because of the school’s community and rich culture that has been created and preserved over the years.” He went on to say, “Two main factors that stood out to me about Portland’s soccer program were the great history of goalkeepers and their style of play.”
A three-year varsity letterman, Mitzner has helped lead the Friars to three of their last six consecutive Trinity League Championships.
Servite Coach Jon Spencer shared, “We are excited to see David Mitzner commit to the University of Portland. David has worked hard to develop into a NCAA division 1 GK. We first met David when his brother was a freshman in fall of 2012 and have seen him grow into a Faith-Filled Leader.” He continued, “We are excited for his next steps as a student-athlete and are confident he will be a great contributor for Coach Nick Carlin-Voigt and the Pilots.
Mitzner, who plans to study micro engineering and pre med at Portland, is also involved in the Asylum at Servite, serving as one of the student leaders. In addition, he has volunteered with Higher Ground and the Ronald McDonald House.
In closing, Mitzner shared, “I’d like that thank all my family for helping me reach my dream of playing college soccer, especially my grandma who would drive me to practice everyday. And to my coaches, thank you for all the help, extra hours and encouragement you gave to me so that I could one day play in college.”
Servite would like to congratulate David on this distinguished accomplishment and wish him the best of luck during his senior soccer season and as he continues on to compete collegiately.
