Senior Colin Ryan has committed to play volleyball at the University of California, Merced. The Friars’ middle blocker shared, “I was first attracted to UC Merced because they offer the bioengineering major I’m interested in pursuing. It also appealed to me that Merced has a close knit atmosphere, much like that of Servite.”

A four-year member of the volleyball program, Ryan has played a key role at the net for the Friars this season both offensively and defensively tallying 31 kills and 9 blocks.

Head Coach Matt Marrujo ’07 shared, “Colin has made the most of every opportunity at Servite. He has been a two-sport athlete for four years and for him to be able to continue playing volleyball at the next level is an amazing achievement that he has earned with his dedication and desire to constantly improve himself both as an athlete and a man. We are excited to see what he can accomplish at UC Merced!”

In addition to volleyball, Ryan also plays soccer for Servite and is involved with the classical guitar program while serving as a confirmation leader at his parish. He also created the Pass It On Program where he collects slightly used and new equipment from soccer players then ships or donates the items to a foundation that distributes it to people in countries of need.

Ryan will join fellow Friar Chris Morikawa ’19 at Merced in the fall.

In closing Ryan shared, “To my parents: Thank you for always sticking by my side, for supporting and guiding me on the paths that I chose and overall being a loving family. To the coaches: thank you for teaching me how to improve, for pushing my ability to what you knew I could reach, and for having me as a part of the team. To both my parents and coaches: Thank you for making me a better person and better teammate!”
