Chip Deegan has committed to golf at the United States Naval Academy. The Friars’ senior shared, “I was looking for a school that could help me grow in academics, athletics, leadership, and faith. I believe the Naval Academy is the best place to accomplish this and I am so blessed to be able to play golf while I am there. The golf at Navy is a Division 1 program and I have had the opportunity to learn all about it throughout the last four years with my brother Chad playing on the team.”

A four-year varsity letterman for Servite golf, Deegan earned 1st Team All-Trinity League honors in 2021. He also helped lead the team to their first ever CIF/SCGA SoCal Boys HS Championship last season after winning CIF and League as a team his freshman year in 2019. Outside of Servite, he was the 2021 Toyota Tour Cup Q-School Champion and earned 2021 AJGA Rolex Junior Scholastic Honors.

Head Coach Dane Jako shared, “I’m very proud of any young man that makes a commitment to the military academies, but I am especially happy for Chip and his family! I know this was his number one choice and it takes a very special person to make
this type of commitment. I can’t even imagine the pride his parents must have, having not one but both sons going to the Naval Academy.”

Jako went on to say, “Both Chip and his brother Chad have meant so much to the success to the Golf program over the past seven years and I look forward to seeing Chip continue to make an impact at the next level. Go Navy, beat Army!”

Deegan, who plans to study quantitative economics at the Naval Academy, is also involved as an Admissions Ambassador at Servite while serving as the 2021 Boys State Delgate and a TACSC counselor and leader.

Deegan is the first golfer from the senior class to announce his college decision.

In closing he shared, “Thank you so much to my family and coaches for supporting me throughout the years. I promise to always do my best and make you proud in college.”
