Senior Brandon Schalliol has committed to play soccer at Concordia University, Irvine. The Friars’ defender shared, “I chose Concordia because I like the sense of community on campus and within the soccer program. The smaller campus and class sizes will help me develop closer relationships with my teammates, peers, and professors. I also like that it is a Christian school because my faith is really important to me. CUI is a place where I can see myself continuing to grow over the next four years.”

He went on to say, “The soccer program impressed me because of the coaching staff and the quality of players that CUI brings in. Coach Gould was very transparent throughout the recruiting process and made me feel very welcomed into his program. I think that in the upcoming seasons we are going to be very competitive in our division. The 2022 recruiting class is very strong, many past teammates of mine have been recruited as well so I am very excited to play with them again.”

A three-year varsity letterman for Servite soccer after transferring in his sophomore, Schalliol has made an impact for the Friars helping them win Trinity League titles in 2020 and 2021 while also bringing home the CIF-SS D1 Championship in 2020. Throughout his career, he has suited up in 29 games to date highlighted by a two-goal performance to open the 2022 season against Godinez. In addition, he has tallied two assists.

Coach Eddie Soto shared, “A huge congratulations goes out to Brandon and his family. He’s a perfect example of someone trusting the process. He’s just scratching the surface with his true potential and I feel Concordia is a place he’ll continue that development.”

Schalliol, who plans to study business management in college and has goals of running his family business one day, is also involved with the Red Cross Club at Servite. In addition, off campus he is the vice president of his class for National League of Young Men and a youth leader at Friends Christian Church.

With his commitment, Schalliol joins senior forward Kevin Sanchez who is also on his way to Irvine as well as fellow Friars and current Eagles Brett Lux ’19 and Justin Nodarse ’21.

In closing he added, “I would like to thank my family, coaches, and teammates for getting me to this point in my career. I have been a part of the Slammers organization for many years and I am very grateful for the time and effort that my coaches have put into me. Without Coach Alex Gimenez I would not be the player I am today and I definitely would not be continuing my career into college. I would also like to thank Coach Bob for helping me throughout the entire recruitment process. I want to thank my teammates, past and present, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be the player I am today. Finally, I would like to thank my family for all of the time and energy they have spent on me over the years from taking me to every one of my practices and making the effort to be at all of my games. I really appreciate all of it.”
