The senior class finished up their Fall semester with various reflections on dating, relationships, and the pitfalls that face them today in finding authentic love.  They were treated to a panel of speakers which varied from teachers to guests Sr. Miriam James Heidland and Jackie Francois Angel.

Sr. Miriam James was raised in Woodland, WA and is a graduate of the University of Nevada-Reno where she played volleyball on a scholarship and majored in Communications.  Upon graduation, she joined the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT), a missionary community that serves global areas of deepest apostolic need.

Jackie Francois Angel grew up in Placentia, CA and is a graduate of Cal State Fullerton.  She is an international Catholic speaker and worship leader.

Every Christian man and woman is called to chastity, the virtue that integrates the body and soul.  It’s a lifelong habit that requires endurance and humility.  Rather than a “no,” the chaste life is an enthusiastic “yes” to the demands of real love and “learning to love excellently,” as Sr. Miriam asserted.

“The talk on chastity is something we get frequently here at Servite High School through our formation program. Chastity is a fundamental aspect of being a man of Christ, and as young men, it is an issue every single one of us constantly struggles with. The talk last week was unique from all the others, however, because it provided a new perspective from Sr. Miriam, a nun of 12 years, when she shared with us the story about her path to Christ, and how she went from a woman who abused the purity of her body to a person who has come to value it as Christ intended. Plus, she was a D1 volleyball player in college, so she came preloaded with numerous witty sports jokes which was a much-needed complement to the hefty topic at hand. The main takeaway though is that she told us to, above all else, respect the dignity of all woman, because respect is the most attractive trait a man can have,” said Conor Faley ’18.
