Basketball Opens the Season With Two Decisive Wins on Route to a New School Record

Servite Basketball defeated San Jacinto 67-13 Wednesday afternoon and set a new school record for fewest points allowed in a game breaking the previous record of 14 set in 1971 vs. Bishop Montgomery. The Friars also tied the record for fewest points allowed in a quarter with 0 after holding the Tigers scoreless in the second half. Servite is now 2-0 in pool play after Tuesday’s 59-33 victory over Perris and will take on Corona in the semifinals of the Big Daddy Tournament Friday night at 7:30pm at Citrus Hill High School.

Tyler Smith led the Friars offensively in their season opener posting 14 points while fellow seniors Reilly Caya and Brian Gomez posted nine each. Gomez followed up that performance adding 12 points Servite following sophomore Kunal Bagga who recorded a team-high 21 points.

After closing out the Big Daddy Tournament, the Friars will return to action Dec. 8th at Sonora at 7pm.
